Apparently Rob Newman has started as the new Head of Recruitment and the word is he will takeover from Sullivan and work with Moyes in identifying and bringing in new players. If they can do this then the future in terms of signings suddenly looks much brighter. Good luck to them both, roll on January and lets see if this really is the case! (FootballFancast)

I'm not sure the ages of the people you mentioned when signed.
Joe Shields is head of worldwide recruitment for City for players up to age of 18. Not Newman.
Over 18 I have no idea how it works.

Rossal, I don't think that's the case. Newman started there as a scout in Spain and went on to be head of European scouting.
Angelino and Diaz maybe, but it's very unlikely that he had anything to do with English youngsters like Nmecha (who was scouted while playing for his primary school team) or Harrison (who was playing for NYC FC, a partner club of Man City) or Brazilians like Luiz.

I believe he played a big part in attracting the youngsters City have gone on to sell for considerable sums...... players such as Angelino, Diaz, Nmecha, Harrison, Douglas Luiz etc his remit was to unearth young talent that could be developed

A lot of people on here seem to think he's going to just work on his own and somehow spot an unknown gem himself. It don't work like that.
I would hope that he'll be in charge of setting up and running a whole scouting network, not just watching games himself and making his own recommendations.
This is the basics of what Moyes had at Everton, and which I expect he wants to emulate here:
Thousands of online reports on potential targets which conform to a blueprint, which matches the club's culture, aspirations and financial status.
Each scout must assess every player under the age of 24 at his match, and grade them on specific aspects of performance. Moyes produced what he called "an MOT Test", where players were judged against a checklist of up to 12 criteria for each position.
The optimal aim is to have up to 50 reports on a primary transfer target, written by between 10 and 12 scouts.

Hardly a failed footballer. He was a bit of a legend during his time at Norwich. And as head scout at Man City he was instrumental in building a struggling mess of a club to one of the best in the world.
Let's give him a chance before writing him off.

So I've been looking for a list of his signings , or deals he has been involved in , and talent be has uncovered.
Couldn't find anything.
Does anyone know what signings he's made his name on ??

He played a key role in managing the team of City’s scouts scouring the globe for the best talent available and will now bring his experience and expertise to London Stadium, as part of a restructuring of the Club’s football recruitment department.
Commenting upon his new role, Newman said: “I’m really pleased to be here and coming in at a great time, especially after what’s been a fantastic start for the Club this season.
“In the last window alone, West Ham brought in four international players, coming to the Club because they’ve seen how well everything is going. They’ve seen what a great Club it is and what an even greater Club it could become. Hopefully I can be part of that process now. I’m going to give it 100 per cent.”
He added: “The most important thing is you can’t just bring players in who you think “he’s a great player for that team, he’s automatically going to make us a great team.” That’s not how it works, because there are different players, different teams play different ways, different managers have different styles, so we’ve got to do it in a way that’s the best for West Ham United.
“Again, that’s down to the department’s due diligence on players not only on the pitch, but off the pitch as well. You have to bring [not only] good footballers in, but also good characters as well.”
There’s an argument that says Micky would never be anywhere near our first team if you use simple rules to chose future stars.

It remains to be seen how accurate the build up to his appointment is but if he really is taking over from Sullivan and we do rid ourselves of some of the agents sullivan uses then it surely must be a big positive.

Ah, ok. You didn't explain that very well, as you were mentioning his playing and managing career, which has no effect whatsoever on his ability as a scout. And you also said that everyone knows who the good players are, which suggested recruitment is an easy gig.
We'll see, on the face of it looks like a decent appointment, suppose we'll find out in a year or two.

I don't know where I said anything is simple. My point is that he's hyped as this super scout and that we have some kind of genius walking through the door that may rapidly change our recruitment fortunes. I don't buy it. No need to delve any further than that. But hopefully he is up to it as it's an important role.

Every club needs people in place for recruitment, and we've just employed someone for the head role. If it was all as simple as you say, no one would be in a job.

Eerie - I'm calling beard on the bloke, and don't expect our recruitment of players to suddenly become more exceptional than it has in recent windows. Ultimately, i doubt he will make much difference. Most players who come into the PL and make it are known to all and sundry, most who aren't, and are scouted by geniuses like Newman, don't.
If you look at his track record at City I don't believe there was one player who wasn't known that came in on his reco and made it. As i said earlier, i assume he has many other roles apart from standing in the rain watching lower league games on a Tuesday night.

I'd say being a scount/talent spotter in football is probably the one role where having a playing/managing career is not high on the list of requirements, however, the geezer played over 600 professional games, spent a few years of those at the top level, and has been working for the richest football club in the world for the last 12 years. Not the worst CV you'll see for what we've hired him for.
I'm sure I read that he is fluent/speaks in a few languages, including French & Spanish, which has obvious advantages with international recruitment. All in all, looks like another positive for the club, let's hope so.
